Exercise 4: Personal History.
For this exercise, I have picked the most significant event in my life – becoming a mother. I have developed the drawing below using different media: pencils, ink pen, soft pastels, and aquarelle. The sense of history is created via intentional created sequence of events, making the story unfolding/ story telling. I drew a specific place – a city and the delivery room, a road in the night to show the movement, a result – which is the fourth drawing of the human brain affected by post part depression and facing a new reality, which I showed with writing “to do” list tasks and a self talk. I indicated my ego, placing it below and being squashed by the brain, busy with motherhood. I wanted to communicate a complex event such as motherhood: it is great and magical, but it is painful and demanding.
