Exercise: Tonal study on white ground
In this exercise we had to study plain un -patterned objects on white-light coloured background with charcoal, pastel or pencil before we start painting objects with two low -key colours using A3, A4 size paper. I picked a simple white colour sugar bowel and two fruits: a lemon and an apple. I did sketches of them stylings tonal values in my sketch book with 2B pencil. I worked in my room with a day light. My sketches are below:
As it was required in the exercise after studying the tonal values as above mentioned I have prepared three light background using oil paints, A4 size paper for acrylic and oil paints by Seurat. I also used oil paints 1) cadmium red 503 and mixing white 007 by Daler and Rowney for light peach background 2) Blue grey 133, mixing white 007 by Daler and Rowney and Noir Dìvoire 85 by Classique for my light grey background;3) light blue 128 by Daler and Rowney for my light blue background;
Doing the exercise I tried to build up volume and dimension studying tonal values.
My studies in colour are below, light and dark background.
